As the world celebrates Women’s Day month, I am compelled to share my personal journey of friendship and growth catalyzed by Google’s Women Techmakers program and the vibrant tech community it fosters. My encounter with Kanak, a fellow enthusiast in tech, through this program has not only transformed my personal life but also propelled my career to new heights.

It all began in Madrid, amidst the bustling atmosphere of the Firebase Summit, where Kanak and I first crossed paths. Hailing from different corners of India — she as the WTM Jaipur Lead and myself as the TFUG lead of Mumbai — we instantly clicked over our shared passion for emerging technologies. Our connection was instantaneous, fueled by our mutual admiration for the tech industry and the desire to make a difference within it.

Throughout our time in Madrid, Kanak and I delved into deep conversations about our respective tech journeys, exchanging insights and ideas that fueled our enthusiasm further. Her mentorship proved invaluable as she guided me in strengthening my professional profile, offering invaluable advice and support along the way. In Kanak, I found not just a friend, but a mentor and confidante — a relationship akin to that of a big sister.

Beyond the conference walls, Kanak and I explored the vibrant streets of Spain together, immersing ourselves in the local culture while brainstorming innovative tech solutions. Our shared experiences, both professionally and personally, solidified our bond, laying the foundation for a lifelong friendship.

Despite our geographical distance, Kanak and I remained connected, leveraging technology to bridge the gap between us. We continued to collaborate on various projects, organizing events and activities within our respective tech communities. Our shared goal of empowering women in tech served as a driving force, motivating us to contribute positively to the industry we are so passionate about.

The pinnacle of our journey together came when we reunited at the Google I/O event. The excitement of meeting in person once again, this time on a global stage, was palpable. As members of Google’s Women Techmakers group, we felt a sense of pride and belonging, knowing that we were part of a community dedicated to fostering diversity and inclusion in tech.

Looking ahead, Kanak and I are determined to pay forward the support and guidance we have received. Through knowledge sharing and collaborative efforts, we aspire to empower other women in tech to realize their full potential. Our journey together is not just about personal growth, but about creating a ripple effect of empowerment that extends far beyond ourselves.

In conclusion, my friendship with Kanak is a testament to the transformative power of sisterhood in the tech industry. Together, we have found strength, support, and inspiration, reaffirming our belief in the limitless possibilities that await when women come together to uplift and empower each other.
